Well, Narensomu has kindly tagged me, so I get to list five of the things I hate (or dislike) in Sulekha. As I cannot think of more than one or two things I hate about Sulekha, and also, it is entirely MY choice that I am in Sulekha (well, if I hate it so much I can always get out, no one is holding me at gunpoint to blog!), I’ll take it as Five things I hate in life, and things which I have no control over, sadly!
1.
First thing that puts me off in the morning is the traffic. Phew! For a 10 km drive when it takes nearly an hour to reach – that is miserable. Especially when you are so near your office (or home), to get caught in a traffic jam where you are helpless to do anything, except wait, to hear all the impatient honks, to inhale the ‘sweet scent’ of petrol or diesel, that is nothing but pure misery. Sure I wish I could fly like Superman!
2.
Any crowded area where all you get to see is heads, and absolutely no sight of terra firma, and where you don’t actually have to make any effort to walk, but just get ‘swept away’ by human waves – that is a pet peeve of mine. I avoid getting into Ranganathan street (any Chennaiite will know what I am talking about, for others, it is a street full of pavement shops which is always crowded irrespective of the day or time!) unless a gun is really pointed at me! But most railway stations (Mumbai’s CST station comes to mind) which I cannot avoid – just gives me a severe case of crowdophobia, and makes me wish I am settled in some remote arctic town instead of a populous country!
3.
I just cannot stand people who spit or throw garbage or worse, treat the roads as their personal urinal – I just wish they impose laws like in Singapore. Worse, these same people when they go abroad will behave like humans there and choose to behave like dogs (er, sorry my canine friends, if I have hurt your feelings!) in their homeland.
4.
I cannot stand people who have absolutely no sense of humor. I know making people laugh is a special gift only a few chosen ones possess, but laughing is something only humans can do, and everyone can do. I cannot stand ‘kadoos’ ‘Chidumoonji’ (glum faced) people who act as if they are Atlas, carrying the burden of the whole world on their shoulders!
5.
I hate it when they lay the road new, the very next day the EB guys dig it on one side and the metro water guys dig on the other side (God knows for what or how long, they keep digging and no one bothers to close the craters, and somehow they ONLY do it when the road is laid new) - and it rains heavily right the next day after all these ‘excavations’, and you need to ‘swim’ through instead of walk through!
