Apart from the obvious one like more money and frequent trips to ‘exotic locations’ like Venezuela or Ohio or Memphis (depending on where your project clients are situated), there are some perks which we take for granted, in the IT field... Expand

Hey Roshni,

Welcome to my blog and thanks for commenting!
I am trying hard not to become a geek and single dimensional in thinking! Hence all this blogging, and like you, am commenting from office, so can't complain much, can we!

good, you r seeing the positive side of it!!!! You need not lack GK, for being a geek, but make sure you dont flaunt it, or else, you will loose your title of being a GEEK.

Right now, I am enjoying one of the perks "FREE INTERNET CONNECTION", and commenting on blogs

good writing!!

Regards,
Roshni

Verboseviju,

Oops, I didn't mean to scare anyone about shifting to IT industry! Ofcourse any coin has two sides, maybe will post a blog soon about how great it is to be part of the IT industry!
Thanks for visiting my blog and commenting, and I'm sure your sons will make you proud! I went on a long term onsite assignment just after 15 months into the industry, where I really learnt a lot, and as I mentioned, was able to see many new places, I know all these wouldn't have been possible if I had stuck to my own stream!

Animagi! Yikes!

Now I feel all sorry my sons... I know things are heading the way you have portrayed... but reading between your lines and through your post makes my heart ache for the twins... One has joined Infy and the other Mindtree...after doing ECE... Hope they decide to do higher studies....for their own sake!

Bharatborn,

Thanks for reading and commenting! 'Forward' sounding title? Oops, have to be careful about choosing titles I suppose!

Pradeep24s,

Wiskyd,

Thanks for the comments. From what I have read of your posts, I can say that you'll have a 'heroine' moment soon enough, with respect to your blogging and writing!

Palahali,

Thanks for reading the blog and commenting! I had some friends who were doing reaserch when I was doing my masters, so I have seen what you mean! They dress as shabbily and do all geekish things, but maybe don't get money for it though!

Aditi,

Thanks for commenting! Yes, I realised right after posting about the dressing point. During my stint in the US ("Exotic location", read, unknown small town in the US!) I used to get shocked in the beginning seeing my manager turn up in golf shorts for work, but got used to it later!

Hi animagi,

This was a very humorous read. But among perks you did not mention about the freedom to wear jeans or shorts, (crumpled) tee shirt and chappals to work.

Even in research jobs one gets most of what you call perks  except money !!!
