Pradeep24s,

Thanks for visiting my blog and commenting. Just checked out your blog on autos, and I was surprised that the autowallah actually turned on the meter. Even after the so-called rule change, I have not seen a single autowallah use his meter!

Auto wallahs are the worst drivers in the city today.. i have written a blog about that..

Melody,

Thanks for the comment, I'm sure anyone who has even visited Chennai would have been 'harasssed' at least once by these 'autokaarans' - and the roads, they are getting bumpier everyday. Just when they lay the road and you think finally you are going to have a good road, all these PWD, Metro water or EB guys queue up and dig them!

Don’t know how I missed this one. Hilarious.

“The meter in the auto is like our brains, we all know it is there, but no one uses it!” That was a wise crack!

The ‘flat’ rates will make you flat!

Thanks for the free joy ride! Enjoyed it!

Regards

Santosh Samuel,

Welcome and thanks for the comments!

Great idea of yours - this 'auto' vs. 'manual'..

BTW, I have no idea abt autos in Bangalore as I have not visited that place in years, but I have had some experience in Mumbai, once when the meter showed Rs 19, I gave a 20 bucks note and turned back, the autowallah called me and gave 1 rupee back! Being a Chennaiite I almost had a heart attack!

Narensomu,

Thanks for the comments! This 'auto' torture is something I experience often, even today to go to a place one guy demanded Rs.60 and for coming back from the same place another one demanded only 40! I don't know how these things work, go figure!

And, the hole in your pocket will be much smaller than what these amusement parks would make!

I think the hole these chennai auto guys make is even worse than the hole the amusement park guys make!

I disagree that the Bangalore auto guys are worse. No no they always use meter. Much better than chennai definitely.

I must use that exercising idea here in bangalore since the roads are worse than those in chennai. Much better than that vibrating belt thingy!

In chennai they should stop calling them 'auto' and start calling them 'manual' since the fare is given 'manually' by the driver and not 'auto'matically by the meter!

I have seen some sellers offering 'free delivery' esp on Ebay but this takes free 'delivery' to another level!

Nice piece

That was a hilarious piece!
All the fans of Rajni vadhyar may be a bit irked by this.
Free delivery idea is very funny too.
They might out all maternity homes out of work...
I liked that dig about brains.
A thoroughly enjoyable ride, this blog.
Regards

Wiskyd,

Thanks for the comment! Yes, I remember all the lines in the 'autokaaran' song - they are as far away from truth as Rajni films!

Maybe I can give you a few tips on 'bargaining', rule # 1 - don't show them that you are out-of-town, then they'll  take you for a ride (literally as well as figuratively!), act as if you have lived in Chennai all your life.

Yes, the meters are indeed 'soodu vachadu' - so don't ask them to use it unless you want to see your BP raise to alarming levels like the meter

Dear Animagi,
Yes, yes, that possibility is quite high. Even I had that feeling earlier.
