The Land of Ram Setu - a travelogue: Part II

Melody Queen,

Apologies for posting a reply so late! Was caught up with a lot of work! Glad to see your comments! Yes, that was exactly the thought that struck me when I visited this place, this place is caught up in so much controversy, but still remains so peaceful.

Dr. Kartha,

Sorry for the delayed reply. Thanks for commenting and complimenting! I am sure you would get a chance to visit the place soon and see the Navagrahas at sea!

Diwali ,TV And Some Musings

Narensomu,

You brought out all the happenings on a holiday in a family very well..Good to see a casual blog from you. Yes, Vijay seems to be the next superstar, and I ended up watching Gilli for the umteenth time on Diwali day too! Sadly, at that point, i thought the match was very well in India's grasp, but got a rude shock when I changed channels and saw the score!
Was wondering whether Lagaan team or Chennai-600028 boys would have played better! Especially the Indian fielding that day reminded me of the 'great' fielder in the movie, who can't catch a thing! Enna kodumai sir idhu!

Kodambakkam Dreams [ blogprint]

Narensomu,

Wow! This was surely one of your best! For every rags to riches story associated with the glam-world there will hundreds of stories like this one! But it is good to see that your protaganist is positive about the whole thing. I got reminded of a Ajith-starrer called 'Mugavari' when I read this story. That movie is about a music-director wannabe, who finally decides to take up other mundane jobs to support his family.

Your narration was good, things happening in the sets interpersed with the person's thoughts..Your song 'Thee vaida thiruda' is spot on!

T.Nagar Travails!!

Wiskyd,

ROFL! Hilarious! Shoe-jahan? Creative! I totally can empathise with you buddy, as I myself had to endure a 3 hour shopping session in T-Nagar today with all the ladies of the house! I think all hapless men like us can do is sit in the lounge listening to IPod or playing games in PDA, the only activity being swiping our credic cards (sigh!) Even that could be difficult in the festive season(Getting a vacant spot in the lounge, that is!) Regarding the traffic, and one way and all the stuff in T-Nagar, I have the misfortune of living in that place and getting out to go to office is an ordeal. As you mentioned in some comment, one day I might end up in Tirupathi instead of my office!

Betal Aur Betal

Narensomu,

Lol! Nice imagination about Vikram and Betal! One small doubt - is this purely fiction or autobiographical? If autobiographical Narensomu is Preethi or the hapless counsellor?
Thanks for making me laugh after a long day and week!

The Land of Ram Setu - a travelogue: Part II

Narensomu,

Thanks for the kind words! I too thought it should be Vallabha Ganapathy, but the guide insisted that it is Parvathi and since the story sounded intersting, I decided to buy it!
There is no part 3, I need to visit once more to manage that. Yes, wherever we go in Rameswaram, Lord Ram will be remembered. Even in the hotel where we were staying, they had pictures from the Ramayana in the reception as well as restaurant!

Rationally speaking:-)

Ha Ha Ha Narensomu,

That was a funny post! Especially the one with the dog, poor hapless creature, what all he had to hear (must be a 'He', had the patience to put up with too much blabberings!). I'll call the animal rights activists for psychologically scarring a sensitive soul with such trashy theories and idiotic talks! Let's see if they are able to do to our 'beloved' netas what we were not able to do!

The Land of Ram Sethu - a travelogue : Part I

Ushasuryamani,

Thanks a lot for the comment and compliment!  Small towns like Rameswaram would not change much even in 30 years, there lies their beauty!

The Land of Ram Sethu - a travelogue : Part I

Dr. Kartha,

Thanks for the comments and the kind words! For answers to Narensomu's questions check out part 1A below
Narensomu,

Thanks for commenting and the compliments! Yes, I was in the heart of the controversial area for which the so-called-bandh was enacted, but we couldn't feel any difference. We were enjoying Lord Rama's blessings in the great temple (with the usual crowd, unperturbed by any setu controversy!) I was told that in Chennai bandh had some effect, but in Rameswaram it was business as usual!

I have tried to answer your questions one by one here, so this is part 1A for you and Dr. Kartha:
How far is Ram sethu from the place which you visited?
Please check the map I have added in the blog at the end showing Gulf of Mannar and Rameswaram. I don't know the exact distance, but we need to go into the sea from the tip of Rameswaram, and the bridge is some 8-10 feet under water.

Is it off-limits to people because of the project?
I don't know whether it is off-limits, but we couldn't go there because of time constraints and the distance.

How far in to the sea did you go?
For coral snorkelling we went nearly 4-5 KMs into the sea.

If this place has been declared a biosphere,
Then why are greenpeace people quiet?
This is a question you should ask Greenpeace people, in fact, after I have seen the corals first hand, more than the religious angle  I am angered about the thoughtless way these politicians are acting about the project with respect to the coral reef there. The boatman (who is actually a fisherman) who took us into the mid sea for snorkelling was describing the spawning of these live corals as 'spectacular' and in his layman terms he said it will resemble mustard spluttering while cooking! Also he repeatedly told us not to step on the corals while underwater because it would damage them and they could die. I cannot help but wonder why these so-called scholars are not as eco-friendly as a simple fisherman!
